A quick counter attack saw the visitors almost opened the scoring in the 20th minute. Jason Law's low shot came back off the post with the rebound cleared for a corner.
Law then stung the gloves of Chase keeper Curtis Pond from the edge of the penalty area.
The home side suffered a double injury blow, losing Jimmy O'Neill to ill health and captain Spencer Gunnell to an injury.
Chasetown were inches away from the lead on the half hour. Michael Williams and Chris Baker combined with the latter dragging his effort wide of the upright.
Gresley struck the frame of the goal for the second time with Law hitting the crossbar.
Muzzy Nduna then opened up the defence with some brilliant skill before firing his effort straight at keeper Brendan Bunn. Williams then saw his near post pile driver saved by Bunn as the Scholars stepped up a gear.
The hosts deservedly took the lead in the 35th minute. The ball was pinged into the box by Muzzy Nduna and leading scorer Will Whieldon fired the ball low beyond Bunn.
Chasetown doubled their lead when George Cater was fouled by Lucas Harrison. Josh Craddock sent Bunn the wrong way from the spot.
Muzzy Nduna quickly added a third goal with a superb close range volley following a left-wing cross from Nkosi Mzungwana.
Bunn produced a full length save to deny a Whieldon free kick from 25 yards.
The Scholars turned the screw and Cater capitalised on a defensive error and beat Bunn at his near post.
Chasetown: Pond, Williams, O'Neill (Mzungwana, 39 mins), Flattley, Gunnell (C Lovatt, 44 mins), Davies, Baker (Ryan, 70 mins), Cater, Nduna, Whieldon, Craddock.
