Brickfield Rangers 1 - 1 Denbigh Town

By

Good game as players get to know each other

Denbigh Town travelled to Wrexham to get another pre season game under their belt and played against a strong Brickfield Rangers side which featured two players recently seen at Central Park viz Alan Bull and Jack Abraham.

On a good pitch, given the recent dry weather, the game started very brightly with both teams creating chances. It would be fair to say that Brickfield probably had the best of the first ten minutes before Denbigh started to push the ball around and take some control. Sam Tate had a lot of the ball, brothers Sam Jones and Thomas Jones were creating things, Jake Walker was putting himself about and came close to scoring more than once whilst Mark Roberts' running and sheer effort was also causing problems for Rangers. Rangers were also causing problems for The Reds though and Trialist A was in goal tonight in place of Craig Vernon and he needed to be sharp to keep the ball from the net. Denbigh's Ross Weaver looks a very player playing deep just in front of the defence and when he moves upfield can also be dangerous. It was Weaver who put Denbigh 1 nil up with a low drive from near the edge of the box. I - nil at half time.

Both teams made changes in the second half. Tony Davies, Sam Jones, Thomas Jones, Mark Roberts and Jake Walker made way for Miles Todd, Sam Downey, Stu Vernon and Sam Cartwright and Trialist B. for Denbigh Town. The rhythm had been broken possibly because it was all Rangers during the first period of this second half and after Rangers came close on at least two occasions it was becoming more likely that a goal was coming. Rangers made it 1 - 1 after the ball was pumped into the penalty area and after the ball bobbled around it fell for a Rangers forward who smashed it home from close range. The game then evened out and Sam Cartwright came close and saw his shot hit the post. The woodwork also saved Denbigh twice the other end before the game finished at 1 -1 .

Matty Jones was content with the workout and said " Another great ninety minutes under our belt and we can now see how the relationships are developing on the field of play which is all good. Dewi and I have had another good look at the players and feel we are on the right track. Brickfield Rangers are a good side with some very good players and will do well in the coming season. We would like to thank them for their hospitality and for hosting the match. "

Denbigh's next pre season match is this Friday evening away at Bala.
