BLOOMING MARVELLOUS

Present Managers Reedy and Edgar, Carl, El Tel, Vowdy, Pauly, PubSi, Mad Willy ,Peaky, Fozzy, Little Jon,Phil, Bob S, Connors, Loz, SuperSi, Birdy, Young Pipey, Young Jon Absent; Brenn (but wasn’t missed!!)

A great turn out from the guys, probably because we only had a short trip up the A14 to Histon , to play our old adversaries Cambridge.

A generally uneventful start to the game, Reedy was studying his notepad contemplating how to introduce 7 substitutes. Mrs El Tel and sister Di were busy explain the word “blooming” was infact an expletive far more appropriate than the usual language used at matches.

The first batch of substitutes was introduced midway through the half. SuperSi, making a rare appearance wandered onto the pitch with what looked like a training ball stuck up his shirt (sorry Martin Walker, you’ve lost your title as champion shirt stretcher) Connors soon started spraying his passes around the pitch followed by his “Arggg…!” when he failed to find his intended target. We decided to start a sweep on the sidelines with how many “Arggg’s..” we would get, “a blooming good idea” said the girls, but we gave up after 5or 6.

The highlight of the half was when the usually quiet Phil got upset ,stamped his feet and slapped his thighs demanding the Management do something about one of Connors’s pointless moans. “blooming heck!” said the girls. Reedy shrugged his shoulders and advised Phil do what everyone else does…just ignore him.

Another batch of substitutions at half time but still no Loz much to the disappointment of Pauly.
The game resumed and Cambridge soon took the lead when their striker, whose name must have been Moses , parted the Jockeys defence like the Red Sea and strolled through to beat our man Carl in goal. However an equaliser soon arrived when Young John latched onto a through ball from Vowdy to smash a great shot into the top corner.

The final substitutions saw the introduction of Reedy, the reintroduction of Phil and the return of Loz much to the merryment of Pauly….you could almost feel the love. The Jockeys looked the strongest side now and soon took the lead when a typical mazy run from Little Jon set up Phil to tuck away. A third soon followed when Little Jon sent Phil through on goal who with a drop of his shoulders sent the ‘keeper, and half the players from both sides, the wrong way to walk the ball home. “3-1 blooming great” was the shout from the sidelines.

Refreshments were taken at the Railway Vue with a poor show from our hosts, however we were entertained by Bob S collecting names and cash for the Valencia trip and Phil explaining the finer points of a Toxteth tantrum!!

A “blooming good day”..no game next week, maybe one in a fortnight.
