The blues 4 game unbeaten run came to an abrupt end against a resurgent Parkgate FC that looked solid at the back and snuffed out the majority of the Mains attacks.
Rossington had the better of the possession in the opening minutes and tried to make the pressure pay with a 20 yard shot from Jordan Turner that was blocked well by the Parkgate defence. The blues kept pushing and probing in the 1st 20 minutes with no luck and a couple of half chances after a great ball from Callum Wiffen to put Jordan Turner in which was put wide and a shot from Jason Stokes which went over after a great run by Brad Billam.
Parkgate were starting to creep into the game after the early Rossington dominance and Josh Gibbons cut out a Parkgate counter with a brilliant tackle. A couple of diagonal free kicks into the Parkgate box came to nothing with the keeper plucking the ball out the air and the Rossington boys were running out of steam and Parkgate were beginning to settle into the game. The sucker punch to the gut arrived on the 40th minute from Parkgate as their centre half towered above the Rossington defence from a corner at the back post and headed the ball back across the goal and into the net. The last 5 minutes of the half were played out with Rossington trying to get going but nothing really happened and the half ended 1-0 to Parkgate.
Parkgate started the 2nd half as the brighter team coming straight out the blocks with a couple of half hearted attempts on goal which Callum Fielding dealt with easily. A corner from Jason Stokes was headed back across the 6 yard line by Rob Ludlam but nobody met the ball and it sadly rolled out for a goal kick.
The officials had lost control of the game and a couple of tackles flew in hastily from both sides in front of the managerial dugouts and Declan Howe was rewarded with a yellow card for his involvement in the feast of tackles. Another brilliant tackle from Josh Gibbons and the centre half brought the ball forward to the half way line and played in Jordan Turner who ran towards goal with one man to beat. But Turner went down and a free kick was given to Parkgate for Turner diving. Brad Billam found himself in the opposing area and smashed a half volley just over the Parkgate goal. The ball went out for a throwing to Parkgate for a throwing and Rossington assistant manager Stuart Lowe was sent to the changing room after much deliberation. A flick from Declan Howe at the near post nearly brought Rossington level on 75 mins but the ball went wide of the goal mouth. The last 10 minutes Rossington piled on the pressure and had shot after shot. Lee Holmes had a shot from just inside the area that was deflected wide for a corner and Rob Ludlam's chance from the corner was blocked by the defender. Lee Holmes then had another shot from just outside the area. Curling the ball onto the post in the 87th minute. The last few minutes became a scrappy affair and Parkgate held on and won the game 1-0.
Next up for the blues next week is Parkgate again but away.
