Old Laurentians 20 - 13 Southam

By

Southam put in one of their best shift's of the season only, to be pulled back by mistakes and indiscipline.

A mistake by Southam from the Old Laurentians kick off gave OL's the possesion and they drove on, and were stopped
before the line a good tackle by full back Jon Lowden. Southam kept them out, but gave up successive penalties and from a line out OL's drove over for the converted try. Southam came straight back with an outside break, by wing Will Clarke from inside Southams half and he weaved up into the OL's 22, the forwards drove across the pitch and set the ball for centre Harry Hewson to take the drop goal in front of the posts. From the kick off, Clarke competed and won the ball for Southam to begin to establish position, the forwards drove and drove to get into the OL's 22 and Lowden broke through up to the OL's 5m. The forwards drove and set the ball and Lowden fed the ball to fly half Tom Grimes, who drove through two defenders for the try, converted by Lowden.
HT 7 - 10

Southam were in control from the start of the second half, driving hard in the forwards through, Bostock, Deeming
and Pink. But eventually the control slipped through mistakes and indiscipline and OL's worked their way up the field through penalties. Southam forced the line out on their own 5m, but gave OL's the ball back and captain Dylan Pink was yellow
carded for hands in the ruck. OL's took the scrum and the No8 went blind for the try. Southam came back hard and some
massive clean out's by Grimes kept Southam going forward to get a penalty for offside on the OL's 22, converted by Lowden.
Wing Sam Bench was badly injured with dislocated elbow and replaced by Charlie Munro. The game was moved to the
next pitch, while the unfortunate Bench waited for the ambulance. The game continued at 15 -13 and Southam were pressing they lost possession and OL's spread the ball across the pitch to find a mismatch and the OL's No10, stepped through and drew the last man for the support to run in for the try .Southam got back up the pitch, with a lineout on the OL's 5m, but OL's stole the ball and the game was over.
FT 20 - 13

A sound performance from the Southam pack, who kept the team on the front foot in the tight and the loose, with wing Will Clarke showing up all over the pitch in attack and defence. This was Southams 4th losing bonus point in only 6 games and it on the cards that if they can just reduce the mistakes and indiscipline, they will turn those 1 point losing games into 4 or 5 point winning games.
