The Christmas break refreshes the players other holidays can’t !!

Chippenham U15’s returned to action after the Christmas break with performance to prove that they hadn’t lost their appetite for open and exciting rugby despite all the indulgence of the holidays.
Straight from the kick-off Chippenham were into the Frome half and the forwards were competing for control of the ball. It was this contest that defined the whole game, and Frome fronted up well. However, once into the Frome 22, Chippenham recycled the ball and Max A sliced through the Frome defence to open the scoring with just 3 minutes on the clock.
From the restart, Chippenham took the ball back into the Frome half with forwards and backs linking well. A number of phases were won that took play deep into the Frome 22, and then from broken play Max P got on the end of a couple of passes to score on the left. Max A converting which took the score to 12-0 with only 7 minutes gone.
Although Frome were competing well, the Chippenham defence put the visitors under pressure when they had the ball. Chippenham continued to play fast and open rugby with ball in hand. The next score came from a kick over which Max A got on the end of, and after a quick juggle, outpaced the cover to score under the posts. He converted his score.
Kyle was next on the scoresheet, with a great finish on the right wing after some exciting interplay up the touch line. This took the score to 24-0 in as many minutes. Ben then got involved bursting through from fullback to take a great ball from Nattie and score under the posts. Ed converted taking the score to 31-0.
All this time Frome continued to compete and as Chippenham rang the changes their forwards took control of the game. Picking and driving phase after phase and protecting the ball well. Despite some dogged defence from Chippenham this pressure told, and Frome opened their score driving over for a try. The pattern was repeated not long after with a second try under the posts which they converted and this brought the first half to a close.
The second half started as the first had finished with the Frome forwards playing to their strengths and keeping the play tight. Chippenham soaked up the pressure for long phases of the game but were unable to breakout when they had the ball; promising attacking moves just failing due to small errors. Through this time Frome kept the score board ticking along scoring two more unconverted tries that took the score to 31-22.
Chippenham rang the changes again and the forward battle swung back their way. A rumble from the pack saw Sam driven over to score their first try of the second half. A few minutes later after some quick hands in the backs, Jon picked up the ball from the breakdown and drove over from 10 yards out. The game had turned back to Chippenham and MaxA demonstrated this further by poaching another score from close in. Then came one of the moves of the game when the forwards and backs combined to win and then distribute the ball across the back line from MaxA to Jon, and then to Nattie who put Orlando in for a try in the left corner.
Although the game was well won, Chippenham did not let up and to provide the point MaxA cut a line through the Frome defence then had to sprint over half the length of the pitch to just beat the cover defence and score at try that Campbell converted.
DanJ then got on the end of another move out on the left to score in the in the corner before Will, who had been making ground all afternoon on the right wing, finally got the space to outpace his opposite number and score a well deserved try. This wrapped a good performance from the whole team with a final score of 70-22 to Chippenham.
