2013/2014

This season was a strange one in that we had 3 changes of managers in the year. With last year's team of Keith Stenton and James Stenton stepping down we started with Ben Hobman in charge but things didn't work out for him as we struggled with long term injuries from the start. Jordon, Jack and Maxi were practically out before the season started, then Craig Farnhill broke his leg in the first game! Jordon managed 1 game during the season, Jacko never featured, Maxi made a handful of appearances and Craig only returned nearer the end of the season. We then lost Frazer Brolls to injury during the season and he only managed a few games after his injury. Results didn't arrive and we had some heavy defeats which eventually led to Ben leaving the club and Speedy Clark returned to try and settle things down. Speedy struggled to make an impact as he missed a few training sessions due to health issues. As the season wore on it was obvious the Speedy was struggling and he told the committee that he definitely would not continue after the season ended. As this news was passed to the players, Allan Clark and Frazer Brolls approached the committee to ask if they could take over when Speedy finished. After discussion the committee agreed to let them take over next season. When Speedy was told he immediately asked us if he could stand down there and then and let Frazer and Allan take over. This surprised us but we agreed and so we had yet another managerial change. The new managers saw out the last half dozen games of the season which included 2 semi-finals, away to Threave Rovers where we lost in extra time and away to Wigtown where we lost in the penalty shoot-out. Both games produced a level of performance I had not seen all season. The Threave game we lost as we tired in the 2nd period of Extra Time but we had led 3 times in the game. Against Wigtown we had led for a long period and we rode our luck at times but we never gave up.
So the season ended on a reasonable high considering what had went before, but we will look forward to next year with renewed optimism.
