This Saturday is truly a packed day of Rugby at Talbot Park

From Schools tournament in the morning from 10am through to Acklam Women's team first game and the local Derby in the league which will no doubt be fiercely contested between Acklam and Redcar.

In addition to this Acklam will be hosting the Yorkshire president Ted Atkinson, and creating extra interest the First teams will be officiated by a female official Coralie Greban. With the Second and Third teams also in league action, 2nds home to Richmond and 3rds away to Redcar, visitors to Acklam Saturday will be in for a Rugby treat.

Acklam regroup - refocus

No one was more shocked at last weeks outcome against Seaton Carew than the Acklam lads them selves. This week in pitting their wits against local rivals Redcar nothing has been taken for granted. Stephen Chambers captain said “last week we suffered at our own hands, too many mistakes, too many penalties saw us hand Seaton Carew advantage. This week the lads have worked hard to put this right, redoubled there work increasing the physicality around the park and now cant wait for the game to start. With us both top end of the table and Redcar with an excellent opening 3 games, the squad are eager to take on the challenge of the Derby and righting last weeks wrongs”

WAcklam First Contact Game

Sponsored by the Hillstreet centre, Acklam’s Women's team has seen a massive growth in a very short period of time, this speaks volumes for female interest in Rugby, the development of Women’s rugby and women’s sport in general. Previously there has been a few local clubs attempting to provide this, but the success of the Acklam Avengers has been outstanding.
Daniel Burns, Head coach said ahead of the first game; “starting the team has brought an upsurge in Women’s rugby for Teesside and the North East. Due to the Women’s World Cup, rugby in general has risen in popularity. Looking forward to the game Saturday, Training has been good, it’s time now to for us to put this into practice, we are hopeful that we can start with a win!”
