The Men in Black had been put through their paces in pre season working extremely hard in training with good commitment levels, and you could see this pay off as they could not of wished for a better start to the season.
For the full 80 minutes ARFC did not let up as they dominated in every area. A lot of work had been put into the line out pre season and it showed as they used the line out to great effect to set up good ball for the backs. Atherstone for some time have wanted to change to a more exspansive running game and this showed as they spread the ball wide on serveral occasions. Jack Bagnall profited from this as he grabbed two tries and the man of the match on his home debut. Jenson Sharlott carried on his fine form from last year as he grabbed a hat trick. Both centres Kieran Morgan and Sam Larkins got on the score sheet in the first half. Just to show how dominant the ARFC backline was Andrei Stan also scored a first half try, meaning 5 out of the 7 players in the back line scored tries in the first 40. This wouldn't of been possible of course without the hard work of the forwards, and they got some reward as Rhodri Davies went over the line.
ARFC did not let up in the second half, Le-Roy Spraggett came of the bench to score after a great run. The support lines and offloading was something we had been missing last year, but was in abundance in this season opener. Chris Garry was on hand to get his first try of the season after some great offloading. Matty Kent came off the bench to grab two tries as the backs continued to throw the ball wide. Sam Larkins burst threw a gap to grab his second of the game. Just before the final whistle there was time for Cole Harrison to get his name on the score sheet.
A great team performance and the perfect way to start the season. Dominant in all areas and even in defence. Trinity Guild never gave up though and worked hard all game. The speed of the defence just gave them issues.
