On Sunday 1 August Brig will be hosting the Bamber Bridge Vets team as they take on a Preston North End Legends XI, in aid of former Brig player George Melling and research in to Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
Preston North End have confirmed that their legends line-up will include former club captain Paul Gallagher. Also lining up for the Lilywhites are Ross Wallace, Chris Lucketti and David Eyres. (Further names to be announced).
George was diagnosed with MND in January 2021 at the age of just 36.
A non-league superstar in the North West, he started his football career as a youth team player at Blackpool and Morecambe before going onto an illustrious semi-pro career.
As well as playing for Brig in 2007 under Phil Entwitle and Neil Crowe, he also played for Lancaster City, Kendal Town, Coppull United, Ashton United, Leek, Longridge, Clitheroe, Nelson, Northwich Victoria and Altrincham.
As well as the match there will be host of other fundraising events including an auction and raffle with some great prizes up for grabs, including a signed North End shirt and Bamber Bridge FC 21/22 season ticket!
