5. The Historically Accurate and Complete, History of the Barbarians

The Historically Accurate and Complete, History of the Barbarians

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth, the day and the night, the land and the seas. He created the plants, the animals and mankind.

However, the part of the story that is not often told, is that God first created Conan, the noble, strong and fearless Barbarian.
Then by himself, Conan created the game of rugby. A game of majesty, skill, and finesse that would be exhibited in all who play it. It was then that the Lord God knew Conan was to become the leader of all men.

These were good days, but then Conan turned his attention to his club, and the qualities these men would need to call themselves Barbarians. Virtues such as strength, courage, humility, honour and devotion, as no single man would ever be greater than the Barbarians Club. That no matter what hardships they may face in their years, the Barbarians would be a bright symbol of hope and pride for all those who support and play for them and it was good.

It was only then that Conan realized he was not interested in being the leader of all men as only a select few were worthy of bearing the title of Barbarians. He wandered, for years, through the plains and the gorges, over snow-capped mountains and along endless beaches in search of men worthy to become Barbarians.

For centuries he searched until one day, he ventured into the New England, and saw that an evil and heartless band of men (The Blues) had claimed a small defenseless town as their own. It was in that moment that Conan knew that Armidale was to be where the Barbarians found a place to call home. At first, there were not many men that answered Conan’s call, but as the years past and the victories and losses came in their stride, the young Barbarian horde grew. It was then that the evil band of heartless men took notice, and that the Barbarians were here to stay. Ever since this day, the Barbarians and the band of evil men have fought on the field of rugby for honour and pride, and will forever be enemies.

As the days turned to night on the Rugby Eve, Conan grew bored, decided a feast was needed before every game, and thus the meat raffle was created. A sacred event that only the finest of meats and foods were to be sold.
An event for all men and women to attend and celebrate, and it was good.

And as the sun rose on the day known as Saturday, Conan wished to attend the girls’ sports, but no team was worthy of the Barbarians support. Conan turned to the Lord and asked him to create a team of warrior princesses, and a leader was fiery red hair to match his own, and beauty to shame the most angelic women. The Lord turned to Conan and said, “Let it be done.” With a flash of light, a tall red headed goddess walked forward named Barbette with her own club called the Barbets, and this was very good.

Together Conan and his Barbarians and Barbette and her Barbets announced that Saturdays would become a sacred day, of sport and celebrations. They became the clubs that will forever be the envy of all the lands.
