Beccehamian Rugby club joined the Jack Petchey scheme in 2007 when our first winner was Robert Hampton. Robert no longer plays for the club but his father, David, remains a member and provided considerable input to the clubhouse extension.

As at June 2026, in total 43 award recipients have played senior men’s rugby and 14 have played senior women’s rugby, including five Men’s 1st and 2nd XV captains and three Ladies captains among them. In addition, 16 adults (including coaches, team administrators and volunteers) have received the Leadership Award in recognition of their outstanding contribution to young people’s sport.

In the 19 years between Robert (2007, 1st winner) and Mili Bullard (2026, 150th winner) awards, Jack Petchey has awarded Beccehamian RFC £71,600 that has been spent on young players between the ages of 11 and 25, plus £20,000 towards the clubhouse extension project. In the early days we bought a range of kit, clothing and equipment, but in recent years, the winners have also spent the money on team building days including days out at watching professional rugby fixtures and end of season social activities.
