...Hungry for Goals, Hungry for 3 Points. The Captains thoughts before Berkhamsted FC face Coalville Town at the Glencar Community Stadium.

“Speaking to the lads who were involved in the first fixture I can see how motivated they are to make things right and gain 3 points”
- Matt Bateman

What A win last night – One of the best team performances I’ve seen all season. What has helped the team gel over the past couple of months?

Yeah, great win and much needed too. I feel over the last couple of weeks we’ve been very unlucky not to pick up results we’d deserved. I think as a team we are gaining more and more confidence and belief that we can compete at this level, which is a big credit to the gaffer and coaches. We’ve played the top 4 within our last 5/6 games and should have gained results in all of them.

Quite a few fans didn’t make the trip to Redditch which, from the highlights, looked a closely contested match. Despite another narrow loss, what are the positives the team can take forward to the Coalville match?

To be honest, I don’t remember Jamie having to make a save other than the penalty in the game…to go to top of the league away from home and walk away with that stat is a huge positive. We as a group know we had a few chances to change the game and unfortunately didn’t take them. Although our league position shows otherwise, we know we can compete against the top teams of the league, so we shouldn’t fear the others.

The lingering conversation about Coalville will be the reverse fixture, however I think we look a very different side now – of course a heavy defeat is something to move on from, but can it be used as extra motivation to get a result this weekend?

Speaking to the lads who were involved in the first fixture I can see how motivated they are to make things right and gain 3 points. Although I wasn’t present in that game, I can safely say our performances have vastly improved, even if the results have gone narrowly the other way. I understand it was a bad day for all and the way to move on is to take 3 points in the reverse fixture!

Over the past few weeks, I’ve seen you hit the bar, had a goal disallowed, and get into good positions to score. Although you have bagged a couple of penalties, how hungry are you to get the ball in the back of the net and is there anything you can work on to change those details? I’m sure if you keep getting chances, it’ll be a short matter of time before some more goals.

Hungry more than ever, I’m itching to start a goal run after a drought… it felt good to score a couple over the last few weeks. As a team we’ve been creating more and more chances and for me It’s about staying sharp and alert for when those key chances come. There’s been vast improvement in all areas of the pitch and I feel the goals are coming for both me and the team. Roll on Saturday ??
