A looping header from Alasan Ann put the home side in front early on as he got on the end of a Newman Carney free kick. Berko’s recent run of injuries continued as soon after Adam Cash came off with a cartilage problem that needs an MRI scan. Berko’s best chances fell to Lewis Toomey who broke clear only to shoot across the face of goal and Robbie Goodman who headed over from a cross by fit again Adam Watkins. Jamie Head saved a few for the home side too.
Berko gambled and went to three at the back in an attempt to rescue a point. Lucas Kirkpatrick and Watkins both forced good full length saves out of keeper Head. Ex Comrade BJ Christie shot wide with a good chance as the game opened up. In the last 3 minutes AFC got two goals to get a flattering scoreline. Substitute Lewis Farrell crossed and BJ took his time finishing well to seal the three points with a shot to make it 2-0. A low skidding shot into the bottom corner by Kieran Hamilton from the edge of the penalty area deep in injury time made it 3-0.
The result meant that Bedford overtook Berko at the top of the table. Berko can regain the lead in the division if they win their game in hand at St Neots Town on Tuesday night.
