One of the most important aspects of grassroots rugby is safeguarding, particularly ensuring that all children and young people under the age of 18 years can be involved and feel safe.

Most children and young people have a fantastic experience through rugby – but sadly, some don't. This might be down to over-competitive parents and coaches shouting and constantly criticising them from the sidelines, the kind of behaviour that the Enjoy the Game programme is designed to address, or it might be due to some other kind of abusive behaviour towards them away from the field.

Safeguarding Children is everyone's responsibility – including Bolsover Bulls Rugby League club. Having welfare officers is crucial to Rugby Leagues approach to safeguarding as it is their role to ensure:

The right people are involved - seeking references and DBS checks.
The environment is safe - codes of conduct, education and best practice.
Clear systems are in place - to deal with any concerns - policy and procedures.

We have a designated volunteer Welfare Officer who promotes and oversees best practice in Safeguarding Children. All Clubs are required by Rugby League to have an appointed Club Welfare Officer (CWO). The CWO is in place to improve practices at the Club and be the first point of contact for any concerns relating to children or adults.
