It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of former player Peter Gaffey. Peter passed away peacefully at home on Saturday 9th May, aged 82, as a consequence of Pleural Mesothelioma (a form of aggressive lung cancer caused by exposure to asbestos fibres through his work in joinery and construction).
A proud Salfordian, he played football and rugby, loved both codes. He was a member of Eccles and Bolton Rugby Clubs.
Peter played briefly for Bolton RUFC / Old Haywardians, around the early to mid 1970s, on the pitches at New House Farm, when the Queen Anne Pub, Little Lever, acted as Clubhouse.
Our thoughts are with Peter’s family and friends and this sad time.
