1. 2021/22 season

Dear Vice President

It feels good to be posting a new season message again and for there to be the exciting prospect of a new season, complete with competitive rugby, ahead. In that regard the challenges of South West One East and Championship 1 South are to be faced by the 1st XV and the Swans respectively. The first senior game of the season will be a friendly for the 1st XV on 26th August with the team being led by new captain Mat Payne. We wish him every success and can be sure that he will lead from the front.

The pandemic has been tough for everyone and for many businesses, however, I’m pleased to say that our club has weathered the storm and is in good financial health, thanks in no small part, to all the Vice Presidents who paid their subscription last season.

Whilst the pandemic is not over yet, the relaxation of the rules and the high levels of vaccination allow fundraising lunches and events to be scheduled once more and also, in 2022, we are planning a Summer Ball and the Buckingham Beer & Music Festival. More about these events and others will be found in the News section of this website in due course.

We look forward to resuming the camaraderie of the lunches and I hope that you will make a note of the following dates and book your seats on our website*. Thank you for adopting online payment so readily, it will continue to help everyone concerned, also enabling me to create seating plans and eradicate the Post-It note reservations.

4th September 2021 – Sponsors’ & VPs’ Lunch – 1st XV v Sherborne
18th September 2021 – Ladies (only) Lunch – 1st XV v Windsor
23rd October 2021 – Chairman’s Lunch – 1st XV v Witney
4th December 2021 – Supporters’ Christmas Lunch – 1st XV v Marlborough
29th January 2022 – President’s Lunch – 1st XV v Bracknell
26th March 2022 – Vice Presidents’ Lunch – 1st XV v Newbury Blues

*On other occasions when the 1st XV are playing at home a hot or cold finger buffet may be available for you to enjoy at a nominal cost an hour before the match.

Also in terms of fundraising, we look forward to the return of the ‘Harper’s Day’ tournament which is scheduled for 27th December this year.

The 300 Club continues to raise valuable funds for the club and it’s open to members, friends and family. Only a third of the VPs are currently signed up so please do give this consideration if you are not already participating. There are two prizes each month and the top prize is up to £500 - sign up and full details are available on our web site.

International rugby is set to return and both the autumn and 6 Nations games are scheduled, as shown in the fixture list. Our ticket application process will again be handled online and I will be emailing the details for the autumn internationals soon, so please look out for that if you are interested.

So, we keep our fingers crossed for continued progress in the fight against Covid-19, because everything is in place for a great season of rugby. Let’s support all of our teams and remember that this now includes not one Swans side but two.

I look forward to seeing you soon.

Will Landon
VP and 300 Club Secretary and on behalf of the BRUFC Committee
