CLUB RULES
The present rules were first drawn up in 1949 and now include amendments up to and including those made at the 164th Annual General Meeting 25th February 2016.

1 The Club shall be called Cartmel Cricket Club. Headquarters shall be Cartmel Park.
2 The aims and objectives of the Club shall be:
To offer competitive opportunities in the name of cricket
To promote the club in the local community in the name of cricket
To ensure a duty of care to all members of the Club
To provide all of its services in a way that is fair to everyone
To ensure all present and future members receive fair and equal treatment
3 The Laws of Cricket as adopted by the MCC shall be used by the Club except where a League Rule overrides such a rule.
4 The colours of the Club shall be blue and gold.
5 The Club shall consist of the President, Life Members, Vice Presidents, Chairman, Vice Chairman, Honorary Treasurer, Honorary Secretary/s and members. Membership is open to all and, no one may be excluded on the basis of race, sex, religion or colour.
6 The management of the Club shall be in the hands of the Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Captain and Vice-Captain of the 1st XI, the Honorary Treasurer, Honorary Secetary/s, Club Safeguarding Officer and six other members, any of whom shall be lessees of the Club for the time being, all of whom shall form the General Committee and, five of whom shall form a quorum. All members of the general committee shall retire each year but all shall be eligible for re-election. Members of the General Committee are required to attend at least half of the committee meetings held and, any notification of absence must be afforded to the Hon Secretary prior to any such meeting. Any member failing to attend the required number of meetings may not be eligible to hold any office or be elected to the General Committee the following year. No member shall be eligible to hold office with less than one season’s membership. The General Committee shall have the power to co-opt any member for a specific purpose for a specific meeting however co-opted members shall not have a vote in any meeting.

7 The Annual General Meeting of members shall be held no later than the last day of February of each year when the Reports and Accounts for the past year, ending 31st December shall be presented and the Officers of the Club shall be elected. An abridged balance sheet shall be sent to all members with the Annual General Meeting notice. If a vote is required on any matter, two scrutineers shall be appointed from members who are not officials.
8 The Hon Secretary shall call a meeting of the General Committee at least 4 times per year and when necessary. Such Committee shall have the power to call a Special General Meeting of members upon seven days’ notice to each member.
9 The property, funds, affairs and entire management of the Club shall be vested in the General Committee for the time being. They shall also be empowered to make such regulations as may be necessary and institute legal proceedings on behalf of the Club.
10 In the event of any office becoming vacant from any cause whatever, the General Committee shall have the power to fill such a vacancy until the Annual General Meeting.
11 The income and property of the Club shall be applied solely towards promoting the Club’s objectives as set forth in this constitution and, no portion thereof shall be paid or transferred, directly or indirectly, to the members of the Club.
12 The membership of the Club shall be annual and the subscriptions shall be fixed each year by the General Committee at the first full committee meeting after the last match of the season. The classification of members shall be:
Senior Playing Members – aged 18 and over
Under 18’s, unemployed, those in full time education
Junior Members – aged up to and including 16
Vice Presidents
Non-playing Members
Ball Sponsors – any person who sponsors a match ball
Social Member – No voting rights
Junior members under 14 shall not be allowed to vote at an Annual or Special General Meeting.
Life Membership may be granted to members after 25 years’ service: the number shall not exceed four at any one time. Similarly, Honorary Vice-Presidents may be elected for outstanding services to the Club, generally with a minimum of ten years service but this may be waived for exceptional service: the number shall not exceed six at any one time and they shall be elected for a period of two years. At the end of that period they shall be eligible for re-election. Life Members shall not be eligible to be Honorary Vice-Presidents.
Membership of the Club shall be open to all persons irrespective of ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, religion or beliefs: or of age, sex or disability except, as a necessary consequence of the requirement of Cricket as a particular sport.
The Club may suspend, expel from membership or refuse membership to any person only for good and sufficient cause, such as conduct or character likely to bring the Club or sport into disrepute. Appeal against such a decision may be made to the Club’s members at a Special General Meeting, by notice in writing to the Hon. Secretary and decided by a majority vote.
13 Any member whose subscription shall remain unpaid on 1st June each year shall be liable to have their name erased from the list of members and shall not be eligible for re-election until such arrears have been paid. Any playing member whose subscription is not paid by 1st June each year shall not be considered for team selection after that date until their subscription has been paid in full.
14 The Hon Treasurer for the time being shall keep all monies of the Club in one of the Banks or Building Societies of the District and shall keep an account at such bank in the name of Cartmel Cricket Club.
15 Teams for all senior competitive games (ie. Not friendlies) shall be chosen by the Selection Committee which will consist of the Chairman (or, in their absence, the Vice-Chairman or nominated representative), all Senior Team Captains and all Senior Team Vice-Captains. Under normal circumstances, Selection Committee meetings will be held on Tuesday evenings at the Club’s Headquarters. At its first meeting after the Annual General Meeting, the general Committee shall decide which (if any) member of the Selection Committee shall hold a casting vote.
No minimum of its members shall be required to constitute a quorum of the Selection Committee, although any member of the Selection Committee unable to attend may offer their views in advance of any meeting to any one of its members. Such views must be taken into by those in attendance at the meeting; however, those views shall not constitute a vote. Any complaints concerning the proceedings of the Selection Committee should be address in writing to the Club’s Secretary for consideration at the next meeting of the General Committee. During the General Committee’s discussions on such complaints, members of the Selection Committee may express their views concerning the complaint but must withdraw from the meeting before any votes are taken.
16 The Club shall adopt and practice “Safe Hands – Welfare of Young People in Cricket”.
17 A resolution to dissolve the Club can only be passed at a General Meeting of the Club. In the event of dissolution:
A The General Meeting shall appoint three Trustees from at least two different generations. In the event of death of a Trustee, the remaining Trustees shall have the power to appoint further Trustees – such Trustees must have been a member of the Club at the time of dissolution.
B These Trustees shall then have the power to manage any remaining assets of the Club under the following guidelines:
i Any material assets (trophies etc) shall be held in safe keeping and may not be sold. The whereabouts of such assets should be recorded with the governing body of cricket in England.
ii Any financial assets with be passed to the governing body of cricket in England. These assets may then be used for the development of cricket in the geographical area covered by the Club. If the Club is re-formed, any assets still held by the governing body shall be returned to the Club.
C The Trustees shall have the power to re-form the Club under the current constitution.
18 These rules may be amended only at a General Meeting of the members. Particulars of any proposed amendments shall be in the hands of the Hon. Secretary not less than seven days before the Annual General Meeting or any Special General Meeting. To all matters affecting any amendment to these rules, members attending any General Meeting shall have an equal vote. At any General Meeting, fifteen members shall form a quorum.
19 The above rules shall be printed and a copy made available to members on request.
