Hat Trick for Macca Scuppers Sedbergh

So back to back matches with a club that is also going through changes, loss of the old guard and bringing new blood to the fore. Many clubs would snatch your hands off for a group of 15-17 yr olds but it’s a pity not more of the old guard are hanging around to ease them in slowly.
Losing the toss – again!! – this has parallels with 2010!! We lost the chance for some batting practice before next week’s game v Netherfield but C’est la vie what will be will be.

Sedbergh made a very slow start with John Burton and David Unsworth bowling tight and after 15 overs Sedbergh were on 0-20 so time for a change and David Howard and Andrew MacFarlane into the attack. 20th over and Macca makes the breakthrough and has Cayley caught by Tom Harvey for 10 1-28. 5 overs later and David Howard balls a peach to remove Pike 2-31. He then sees off opener Moore LBW so it is 3-38. It is then all downhill for Sedbergh. Macca is on a hat trick but they survive. 2 overs later he is on another and this time gets it. 9 down and it is just left to David Howard to bowl no 8 and its time for tea. Returning old boy Freddy arrived too late for a bowl (traffic bad on M6 – really?). Macca figures of 7-11.

Anyway after a couple of failures Will got off to a flyer – 7 x 4 then out, but game all but over 1-37 just 6 needed to win. Macca decides not to hang about, 4, 6 and lets go home boys. Job done. Another 15 in the bag and top of the table, at least for tonight.

Now what to do when we have had an early finish boys?? Well back to David’s and let’s reminisce …… who else remembers all those “pass the pigs nights” ….. a few ciders wines and cocktails later its time for bed, but not before Fred has said he will come up for a weekend in the summer and play another game, maybe even get a ball this time!
