Great team effort in the field to set up exciting ten wicket win.

Another blustery afternoon for cricket and an away trip to play Neston second team. A strong batting line up and the addition of Joe Maddocks to provide the spin option. A good batting track and Seamus pleading with the captain to win the toss and bat. He got half his wish as the toss was won but Neston were asked to bat.

Sam Mallows and Francis Robson opened the bowling. All that Cross-fit and his gym trip to Miami helped Francis as running into the fierce wind was tricky. Alan the umpire frequently lost his hat in the gales and the bails weren't keen on remaining in place...especially when Francis and then Sam took to removing them. Neston batted cautiously in the face of some superb bowling particularly from Sam who bowled some really tricky deliveries that hit the ridge and flew through to Tommy's magical right hand. Runs were hard to come by. Guy Reeve was batting steadily but not accumulating many runs. Joe Maddocks came on and although he took a couple of overs to settle, he bowled well. The fielders helped him out with some brilliant out fielding. Sam's spell came to an end 13 overs taking 3 for 38. Great stuff. Dan Riley replaced Sam and struck almost immediately with a smart catch from Tommy Evans removing Heath. Reeve continued to crawl towards 50 then Maddocks with 2 wickets and Riley with a further scalp took the tally to 8. But it was Bobby Evans who had the final say picking up 2 for 4 including Reeve for 62. Matthew Griffiths clearly doesn't have Bob in his fantasy team as he refused to take a catch which was hit straight to him. 156 all out. Hopes of an early finish high.

A good tea and news of Ollie Law scoring 100. Confidence was high with Griff at number 3 not expecting to bat. Seamus and Bobby opened up and finished things off in clinical style. Knocking off the 156 in 21 overs. 7 bowlers tried but to no avail. Bobby as powerful as ever and Seamus watchful, punishing anything wayward with some fantastic drives down the ground a particular highlight. Bobby has made some long boundaries look particularly small and he peppered the Neston club house with 4 sixes as well as another into the tennis courts. He even hit his watching father and nearly knocked Dave Maddocks Guiness out of his hand on the balcony. Perfect ten wicket win.

MotM Bobby Evans
DotD Matthew Griffiths (deservedly so for once).
