A chance for 25 points against newly promoted neighbours (whom we hope stay for a while). Changes with Bob, Griff and Sam out. Liam, Mike Treen and Joe Killoran all back and eager to succeed. A won toss and the first time this year that the 2's have bowled. Skittle them early and knock them off?
Liam and Wiggy openend up and bowled lively spells but the score ticked along at 6 an over. Then the first quickly followed by the second catches went down. Admittedly not sitters but needed catching. Dan Riley on and Gibbons out caught and bowled. James on too. Both bowled steady lines and lengths. Another catch, another drop. JC with a wicket. The whole innings continued in the same way. Good pressure built and simpler and simpler catches shelled. Charlie Fleet once again was the star with 4 for 48 from 11 well controlled overs. He really is good! 226 at tea was surely par and no more on that track?
Joe Killoran and Mike Treen opened up, Mike in a big way. He played some fantastic shots on his way to 46 before the slow bowlers came on and he chipped one to mid-wicket which they caught. Ian and Joe consolidated. Mel Dobson and Geordie are tidy bowlers. Not much loose stuff but Joe smashed everything there was for 4 or 6. The run rate climbed and with 10 overs left, 80 was required but the slow bowlers were done. In the end, it was too much. Poor run outs and misfortune didn't aid the Chester cause. Joe finished 77 not out and Ian hit another 30.
Catches...
MotM - Joe Killoran's excellent innings justifying the late call up.
DotD - Alex Townend whose Dad left the handbrake off on a slight incline and nearly lost his van.
