A sunny Saturday and the ground looking an absolute picture. Last game of what has been a great season. Another win would provide the perfect send off to the season. A laid back warm up and disagreement over the toss. Already relegated Cheadle were poor away from home and so bat first and go for 400 was one school of thought whereas get the game done quick as possible being the other. Irrelevant as the toss was lost and Cheadle batted.
Keggy and Sam opened up and Zafar decided he was going to go down with some fireworks and he whacked some fours chiefly off Sam who actually bowled really well but deep-midwicket and 3rd man bore the brunt of his 38. Keggy made a good fist of finishing the game early with three wickets in his third over including an excellent stumping by Griff down the leg-side. Excellent work. Charlie on and in search of his 25th wicket to make the handbook. The other bowlers shared the overs, Al Money bowled quickly without reward, the skipper bagged a couple and so did JC. Charlie whirled away for his full 15 overs. 2 for 50 was good reward for a season where he has bowled excellently and cemented the spot left by Shane Patel. All out for 124.
Tea and the news that the first team had won by 4 o'clock!
George Metcalf and Wiggy opened. Wiggy was out quickly to the leg-spinner. George then unfurled his full range of shots. There is no better cover driver in the club and when he fizzed 2 consecutive balls to the fence he was away. He remained positive throughout and hit everything crisply. Sharon Wyatt standing at deep long-on stayed where she was for fear of jinxing the youngster! He cut, pulled and drove with sheer class. His 13 4's took him to a 25 ball 50. Brilliant innings by the youngster equalling the entertainment that Al money had given us the week before. Their hundred partnership in ten overs included more typically swashbuckling strikes from Alex Money. Another 40 runs with everything coming off the middle. Cheadle dismantled by 4.30 inside 13 overs. Griff and Ian Metcalf the batting stars of the season but more than happy to win and to see George do well. Proper team players.
MotM - George Metcalf. Brilliant innings.
DotD - Charlie Fleet who has stepped up brilliantly since Tom Wyatt's first team promotion. Dropping and breaking ` water bottle thrown from the Fleet balcony and then fielding the next ball with the remnants in his hand.
