Chester batted first on a typically green and bowler friendly Upton pitch. The Metcalfs back from their Portuguese sun-soaking mission - Ian clearly won. Dan and Wiggy again opened the bowling with maidens initially and then the Upton batters started to make some headway as anything full was dispatched. Wiggy removed James and McGowan courtesy of two smart slip catches from Matthew Griffiths who had left his Aldi bag at home in favour of his usual kit. Robin Fisher replaced the captain and bowled with accuracy, threatening the outside edge continually. As Wiggy's excellent spell ended, Charlie Fleet entered the game. Spin to tie the batters down but with Warburton removed by Fishy, Upton began to accelerate. Strong hitting down the ground from Simcox (53) and Livingstone (34*) ticked the score along and with a couple of dropped chances, Upton looked set for a way over par 200. Wiggy and Dan back and a wicket each to see the rate checked. Boundaries limited in the end as the innings closed on 171.
Charlie and Griff opened up against Livingstone who is an excellent exponent of the Upton conditions and he removed Charlie and then Noah. Dil came in at 4 and rebuilt with Griff until Simcox came on and swung one past him, bowled for 17. Enter Wiggy. In good form but could he continue? He and Griff rebuilt and pushed the score forward as Wiggy found the fence seemingly with ease. Griff then perished trying to hit a shorter ball out of the park, but it didn't bounce...bowled by Keenan. An excellent 39.
The score continued to tick upwards as wickets continued to fall. George out with the score 111 for 6 and with Wiggy (36) gone too the experienced tail looked like being tested. 158 for 8 with Dan and Ian in together. They calmly pushed the score along to within a whisker of victory until Dan (20) holed out with the score on 171. Last man Rob Fisher in...a bye...then an LBW shout...Griff in the hot seat but not out. A single from Ian (21*) to seal victory. An excellent game all round but with Macclesfield 2's winning, Upton found themselves in the bottom two.
MotM - Alex 'Wiggy' Townend. Another all round display.
DotD - Noah Vickery. Walked into the score box headfirst.
