Griffiths back to lead the charge to 93 after the bowlers, lead by the skipper, take charge.

So Matthew Griffiths returned to the side fresh from a run of games in the ones. Eager to score some runs but even more eager to get back to the club as soon as possible. Bowl first on a new track was the plan but Dan called incorrectly for the first time this year only to be bowling anyway: result. Without Wiggy who was unavailable because he'd been to a physio and Noah missing at the opticians in Northampton - you couldn't make this up - there were opportunities for others to stake a claim.
Jack Mcgovern and Matt Brayne opened up and both found their straps immediately despite some crisp shots to the fence from the Timperley openers. A couple of edges through to Griff in the slips and two down early. Ian Metcalf is nothing if not a fine assessor of the potential of the oppositions batters and his prediction that they wouldn't get many as Dan and Charlie would bowl them out seemed a reasonable one. Jack took another via the edge to the grateful Karl who was once again excellent with the gloves. Dan Riley and Charlie Fleet duly entered the fray to try and prove Ian right and the skipper struck almost immediately courtesy of a smart catch from Karl. The two slow bowlers bowl really well in tandem and with carefully set fields and catchers in key positions, it seemed that chances would quickly materialise...they did as Dan removed Khan LBW. Charlie got in on the act before Horsfield came in and struck a couple of boundaries but after 35 overs it was all over for Timperley with Jack snaffling a second good catch to give Charlie his third wicket. Dan finished with 4 for 14 from his 11 but all four bowlers bowled well, backed up by good catching and fielding.
Tea was beige as usual with perhaps a touch too much onion in the cheese and onion butties. Jack did his best to eat his own body weight in pastry as Griff and George padded up ready to take on the low total. A wry smile from Foxy to acknowledge how right he'd been in the field!
A low total can be tricky (see Tattenhall away 2017 for details) and the plan was to bat like they'd scored 200. In other words bat normally. After 5 overs with the score on 37, 200 looked like a comfortable total to knock off never mind 93 but then a change of bowling did for George (20) who had carried on his recent run of good form, looking in good order and launched one over square leg for a six. Ian in then out caught behind then Dil uncharacteristically out without scoring to the second change bowler. Surely not...56 for 3 and suddenly things looked tricky but Reg Wyatt and Griff did the job. Reg's best quality as a cricketer is his positivity and he batted in such a vein. We'll not tire of his whip off his legs in second team cricket nor will his elegant drives become boring. 16 not out but an unbroken 40 partnership with Griff who finished the game with a four and 39 not out - can he play every week please?!
Another all round team performance and another 25 points. Excellent stuff and all done by 5pm. Marvellous and we'd all lifted a girder in to place before we set off in the first place (when I say all, I don't mean And and George but they did look encouragingly).

MotM - Dan...just pipped Griff with the wickets and economy
DotD - Alan the Umpire for trying to give their left-handed batter a right-handed guard. At least Villa lost Al!
