CBHLCC travelled to Wistaston on Friday 13 May in the first round of the Cheshire Women's Knockout Cup for a repeat of last season's final, which saw the Deemons taking the trophy.
Losing the toss, CBHLCC were sent into bat, with Ali Cutler returning to the opening slot after missing last season with a serious knee injury. Things didn't start well as Captain Starkey, attempted to pull a straight ball which kept low, sending her back in the pavilion on ball 3 of the game. Sammi Short joined Cutler at the crease, both finding it hard to find the gaps, leaving CBHLCC on 46-2 at the midway point. Having to wait 2 years to play for the senior side, 13 year old debutant Hannah Snape showed the rest how to play 20/20 cricket getting a very stylish 15 off 14 balls to give the Deemons something to bowl at as they finished on 80-7 off their 20 overs.
In reply, Wistaston opened with former England International and current Lancashire Thunder Women's Super League player, Laura Macleod who showed her class with her quick first 25, aided by Cheshire U17 player Hannah Bratt (25ret). Some tight bowling from the Deemons saw Wistaston score just 13 runs in 5 overs to make for a grande finale, leaving Wistaston needing 3 off the last over. With the light fading, it was left to Wistaston Captain, Ali Smith to guide the team home with 3 balls to spare.
The Rainbow Slush Player of the Match went to debutant Hannah Snape (pictured above) for her 15no and 3 overs for 18 runs. Certainly one to watch this season and the future!
Good luck to The Swans for the rest of the competition.
