It was a challenging morning of cricket for the squad playing Neston CC in the CCCL.
We only had nine players right up until the start; we won the toss and bowled with ten on a wicket uncovered overnight.
With a meagre run rate, Nav and Joe opened the bowling, putting pressure on the Neston batters, who showed maturity to get through this period and bat. Bowling changes brought an increased run rate before Ram took the first wicket with a score of 51 on the board.
Neston then increased their run rate to bat at over seven an over, and only towards the end of their innings did we take further wickets; Ram, Nav, Ben and Harrison with one wicket each.
We had a target of 150 to chase down, which proved too much for the boys. We lost Nav in the first over to a brilliant delivery that pitched on middle and clipped the off-stump bail. We lost regular wickets, with only Archie and Ben establishing some control and score. Scoreboard pressure bore down on the boys, dismissed for 71 in 15 overs.
Not the result we wanted, but a good benchmark for some of the boys to consider as the application and experience of the Neston players showed the gap between the two teams. We will consider the makeup of our teams to ensure competitive games players enjoy their cricket and improve.
Thank you to Archie for stepping in as Captain and keeping wicket; and Alan for running the game.
