Craig Dalby - RIP

MATTHEW STEPHEN28 Jan - 20:31

All at Chippenham RFC are deeply saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Craig Dalby and we pass on funeral arrangements

All at Chippenham RFC are deeply saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Craig Dalby, our thoughts are with his family at this very difficult time.

An all-action scrumhalf, Craig had an accurate service, an eye for a break, and as many a flanker found out, was incredibly strong on the ball. Having previously played for Newcastle Gosforth Craig moved south and had four successful seasons with Bath Rugby.

A knee injury curtailed his career at Bath, and he moved across to Chippenham in 1993, making an immediate impact both on and off the field. Although fiercely competitive, Craig played with a smile on his face and his positive approach rubbed off on those around him. It was clear even at this stage that he would become a good coach, and naturally mentored those around him.

After hanging his boots up Craig involved himself in coaching at the club, starting in the Juniors before progressing to the 1st XV. Bringing a wealth of knowledge, Craig acted as a mentor to many young players, particularly those who wore the number nine jersey, and was always happy to be sounding board for those who needed to bounce ideas around.

Craig toured with the Warriors (Vets) where the ability to socialise is as important as your ability to play, and Craig was never found wanting in either area. When the sad news of Craig’s passing reached the Warriors group there was a genuine sense of loss. “Top man, great teammate, very humble man, were among the many comments made.

A genuinely nice guy, Craig will be missed by all who knew him at Chippenham RFC.

A service to celebrate his wonderful life will be held at West Wiltshire Crematorium on Thursday 20th February at 2:15pm. Craig is a happy soul, please don't feel you need to wear black.

If you would like to pay your respects along the way, Craig will be driven from his home at 1:30pm, through the village of Bromham, to the crematorium.

Any donations kindly given will be donated to:
- The Bromham Wednesday Club, to help with the landscaping of the new Bromham Community Hub.

- The British Heart Foundation
