Y MORFA VENUE - Clubhouse 3 of 3

3. Development plans press ahead

Conwy Borough Football Club are progressing well with plans to develop a community clubhouse and business hub facility at Y Morfa, along with establishing new training facilities.

The club have recently been granted planning permission for a new building after the previous clubhouse was condemned as no longer safe to use, following years of deterioration. The building was demolished last year and various funding applications have been sought for a replacement building that will serve as a community facility with a bar and function room along with office space, which will create a hub for social enterprise organisations and the club’s youth and community development.

The club are also looking to develop an “on-site” Community Shop to serve the local community following the recent closure of the Morfa Stores on Penmaen Road.

The loss of the previous clubhouse building has challenged the club financially and should the funding bids be successful there will still be a shortfall so the club are appealing for anyone who feels they can help donate, fund-raise or contribute in any way.

The clubs Vice-Chairman Darren Cartwright explained the plans:
“The plans for the new facility will include a function room & bar area, designed for multi-use along with a kitchen, office space and meeting rooms.

“The whole project will cost upwards of £150,000. On the positive side, we have already secured over £55,000 worth of funding and expect an answer on another bid very soon.”

“The new building is designed to be an asset that will be open to all of the community to use for a range of purposes and as a function venue. It will provide the club with a facility to ensure we are sustainable for the long term.”

The club has received backing for the project from an impressive number of local organisations and individuals who feel the facility would be of great value to the community.

The club have set-up an online paypal link for those who wish to pledge funds to the cause and project updates will also be posted on the club's website.

Anyone pledging funds will be credited in the club's match programme, website and in the new building.
