Ambitious Doncaster Phoenix have moved swiftly to strengthen their squad after winning promotion to Yorkshire One by signing former Doncaster Knights stalwart Chris Planchant.
The 31-year-old backrower only announced his retirement from the Knights a fortnight ago but Phoenix have been able to secure his signature in double quick time as they look to build on the success of reaching Yorkshire One for the first time in their history.
Planchant, who also lists Waterloo, North Otago, New Brighton and Birkenhead Park among his former clubs, will assist Phoenix coach Ryan Peacey with coaching the forwards as well as playing.
He decided to leave full time playing with the Knights to concentrate on his teaching career at Hallcross School.
"It's been getting trickier to balance the two over the last couple of years, but I'm delighted to have joined Phoenix," explained Planchant, who spent six years with the Knights.
" I know a few of the boys here so I'm really looking forward to it as the club did tremendously well to get promotion last year."
Phoenix rugby manager Drew Noble said when the club heard Planchant was quitting the Knights there was no hesitation in contacting the rugged forward.
"Chris is a quality player and one we're very excited to have captured," he added
