Established in 2003, Doncaster Demons are the women’s playing arm of rugby at Castle Park.
The team competes in the RFU Women’s Leagues Competitions and has racked up countless league wins, as well as successes in cups and tournaments across the UK. Several Demons have gone on to be selected for County, North of England and International honours with England Deaf Rugby. (They have also seen fellow Demons selected for Scotland RFU, England RL and one receive an MBE!)
The team also plays an active role in the local community and has developed strong links with local businesses, organisations and schools to help support women’s and girls’ rugby in the area. Frequently delivering ‘taster’ events at Castle Park, featuring appearances from England players, is just one of the ways they help to raise their regional and national profile.
The Demons pride themselves on offering anyone interested in joining the team, a warm welcome. Over recent years the squad has grown to the point where the Demons have two teams playing in the RFU Women’s National Leagues and can offer everything for the complete beginner to the more experienced player.
Keen to be a Demon?
Each season, the team works hard to retain as many players as possible. However, the Demons are always on the lookout for new recruits and will welcome any players looking to begin their career, or return to rugby after a period of injury, or leave. Whatever your ability may be, the players and support staff will help you to grow and develop your confidence as a valued member of the team.
If you’re interested, training is led by RFU qualified coaches at Castle Park on Tuesdays and Thursdays, between 19:00 and 20:30.
While out of season training sessions often focus on building up your functional fitness, we switch to more specific conditioning and gameplay in the run-up to the season. This helps to teach players about positional play and mimics the real-life situations which occur on the field.
As the Demons are an amateur team, there is a heavy reliance on willing volunteers.
The team always welcomes support and applications from people who might be interested in helping the team succeed. So, whether you can offer your services as a coach, match physiotherapist, or sponsor, please contact the Director of Women’s Rugby on the email below.
