Led out by GMick, Doncaster Demons 1XV took to the pitch with real intent, delivering a commanding performance to secure a 15–0 victory over Trafford.
From the opening whistle, the Demons set the tone with the forward pack dominating scrums and providing a strong platform for the backs to play with confidence and ambition. The forwards continued to work tirelessly, winning valuable metres and allowing Doncaster to dictate the tempo of the game.
The opening try came courtesy of hooker Kira, who finished off Doncaster's attacking efforts to get the scoreboard moving. With momentum firmly on their side, the Demons continued to apply pressure, showcasing some excellent attacking shape and creative play.
The second try was a moment of real quality, fly-half Chloe produced an incredible cross-field kick in open play, finding Cerys who gathered the ball brilliantly and carried it over the line to extend Doncaster's lead to 10–0 heading into half-time.
Trafford struggled to find a way through a determined Demons defence, with the side putting in some outstanding performances across the pitch. Casey, nominated as Players' Player, and Shar, awarded Coaches' Player, were particularly influential, producing exceptional tackles and setting the standard defensively.
Doncaster continued to show their attacking intent in the second half, with the final try showcasing exactly what the side were capable of. Jae made an excellent, hard carry up the pitch, breaking through Trafford's defensive line before shipping out to Laura, who finished brilliantly in the corner to seal the final score at 15–0.
Chloe's performance at fly-half also caught the attention of the opposition, with Trafford praising her kicking game, describing her efforts as “kicks that Fin Smith would be proud of” – high praise and a testament to the quality of her performance.
Perhaps most pleasingly, the performance reflected the hard work being put in behind the scenes. The hours of training, commitment and effort from the squad are now translating onto the pitch, with combinations developing, communication improving and players putting their practice into action when it matters. The team are beginning to reap the rewards of that hard work, with everyone working together and contributing to a strong collective performance.
It was a complete team effort from the Demons, built on scrum dominance, intelligent attacking rugby and a defensive display that ensured Trafford never troubled the scoreboard.
A 15–0 victory, three excellent tries and a clean sheet – a performance for the whole squad to be proud of.
