3. Minis

Welcome to the Droitwich RFC Minis Section.

Whether you are 4 or 40, rugby is about having fun with friends. There can be no better place for your children to start their rugby journey than here at Droitwich RFC.

The Minis section at Droitwich was formed in 1990. It has been a thriving section of the club ever since and every Sunday we welcome over 200 children at the Club. Our Minis players come from every walk of life and a wide range of schools across our area. That means that whatever your child’s experience of rugby they will find familiar and friendly faces to welcome them into the Club and to help them to develop their rugby skills.

In line with the RFU’s requirements, we help to develop those rugby skills at a pace most suitable for the age of your child. Teams are organised on the basis of school years. For children in year 3 and below that means that they play Tag rugby. Tag is a “non-contact” form of rugby that allows children to learn the important skills of passing and running. Once they have mastered those skills our children move on to contact rugby in year 4 (U9). This year sees the introduction of new rules for Mini rugby which will minimise the jump from Tag to contact rugby and which should make the game more fun for those involved.

The skills developed at the Club have helped mark out Droitwich Minis as a force to be reckoned with in the region and the silverware in the Clubhouse is proof of that. However, most of all rugby at Droitwich is about having fun.

The success of our Minis teams is down to the commitment and hard work of our volunteer coaches – most of whom are the parents of players. As parents our coaches understand the need to ensure that our children enjoy their rugby in a safe and fun environment. As a club we make that possible by making sure that all of our coaches have an up to date CRB check and have received RFU training to enable them to coach at their chosen level. For you as a parent that means peace of mind and a reassurance that your child is in good hands.

TEAMWORK, RESPECT, ENJOYMENT, DISCIPLINE, SPORTSMANSHIP.
THIS IS RUGBY.

If you think that it is right for your child training is on Sundays from 10:00am to 11:30am. We look forward to welcoming you.
