Big Win for U16s…

Big Win for U16s…

Vicky Belson4 Dec 2022 - 20:41

…away at Andover

After their recent 1 point loss to league leaders Eastleigh, the U16s looked to get back to winning ways today in their rescheduled fixture against Andover.
Fawley hit the ground running, and after quickly gaining the upper hand in both the scrum and breakdown, the inevitable first try came after some excellent handling from the backs delivered the ball for Aidan Cross to go over. Max Belson stepped up and slotted the first of his 8 conversions for the day. Following the restart, Fawley piled on the pressure again, and it soon led to a second try - Dylan Lucas leaving would be tacklers in his wake as he crossed the whitewash.
A second try for the ever-reliable Aidan Cross was followed by a superb solo effort from Max 'Greedy B' Belson, who ran the length of the pitch and danced around several defenders to score under the posts. Before the half time whistle was blown, Fawley demonstrated some excellent defensive work. Despite being camped 5m from try line, Andover runners were repelled time and time again, as Fawley refused to give up their clean sheet. After the break, normal service was resumed. The tries from Fawley continued to add up, and the opposition struggled to get any sort of a foothold in the game. A second half hat-trick of tries from Wyatt Davies, one of which was the result of a fantastic offload from Aidan Cross paired with a wonderful support angle by Wyatt, and further scores from Max Belson (who finished the game with an impressive 26 points) and Oliver Greenwood put the game to bed.

Whilst the scoreline is pleasing, the manner in which it was achieved was the most pleasing aspect. The discipline and rugby intelligence the lads showed today was impressive. There is always more to learn but the coaches are very pleased with the 0-61 win.

Fawley were treated to a delicious lunch and Andover nominated hooker Ollie Greenwood their Man of the Match for “always getting in their way”!
