.... in friendly versus Tottonians

Fawley U16's hosted local rivals Totton at home on Sunday 19th March in a thrilling fast-paced game that saw plenty of action right from the off. Fawley dominated from the start with some speedy passing along a well-organised line enabling usual try-scorer Aidan Cross to start the scoring 4 minutes after kick off. The conversion was missed and Fawley got right back in the action as soon as the whistle went again. Back from injury and in a new position of hooker, Aaron Golding was sensational running through the opposition and Fawley banged another one over the line, once again in the hands of Aidan, which was swiftly converted by Max Belson... 15 minutes in and a healthy 12-0 lead to the home side.
Fawley displayed some impressive line-out work throughout the match and were also very strong in defence. Fawley's ability to get a quick ball from the breakdown was very much on display with scrum half James Walley's efforts being praised by coaches post match. A good breakout meant spectators were treated to a superb run by Wyatt Davis gaining plenty of ground in a very short space of time before passing the ball to the waiting hands of Aidan who scored his hat trick shortly after. Another conversion by Max Belson meant the scoreline was then 19-0... comfortably in Fawley's favour.
Returning player Marcus Wilkins enjoyed a good match, tackling well and taking some big hits from the resilient Totts. The resilience paid off after a few minutes of even-handed play and Totts secured their first try, but missed the conversion taking the score to 19-5 just before half time.
Bolstered by the score line Fawley once again came out fighting in the second half. Some assured attacking play enabled Aidan Cross to score 2 further tries in 6 minutes, his pace leaving the opposition standing. Both of these were confidently converted by Max Belson ... 33-5. Totts fought back however and after some determined pushing from their front row they were rewarded by a try of their own which was converted... 33-12. Fawley weren't going to let that put them off and after another round of impressive passing and anticipation the ball got to Philip Lalauvaki who was able to score a try for Fawley right under the posts. Another successful conversion by Max really put Fawley out in front and as they really began to gain confidence by their lead their ability to work as a team really came together. Accurate passing and some fancy footwork enabled Max Belson to score a try of his own before he then converted it, with 5 minutes to go. Fawley therefore ended the match 45-12 to the delight of friends and family watching.
All boys were treated to delicious hot dogs (thanks to Sargeants Butchers) and cakes before happily making their way homeward.

After this comprehensive display of rugby, the boys are looking forward to their cup game next weekend where they face Alton at home in the bowl play-off.
