Despite some challenging conditions Fawley 1st seemed to have a real sense of purpose this Saturday and were determined to continue their winning streak, resulting in a great days Rugby. Chris Soards got Fawley off to a great start with a blistering run from the halfway line after receiving the ball from the fly half following a scrum, beating 3 or 4 Nomads players. Successfully converted by Rob Thomas, 7 – 0 to Fawley.
Nomads answered with some good attacking play resulting in a penalty kick successfully taken, 7 – 3.
The Fawley scrum, determined not to let the backs take all the glory, executed a great push over the line with Danny Leggett pressing the ball home, successfully converted again by Rob Thomas, 14 – 3.
Following a penalty try to Nomads and a successful conversion, the gap narrowed, 14 – 10.
Another great piece of play from Chris Soards, saw Fawley's Wayne Cleary in space heading for the try line. A great last ditch tackle from Nomads denied Wayne a try. But the resulting scrum 5 yards out gave Mike Kitcher space for a great individual try and another accurate conversion from Rob Thomas, 21 – 10.
Chris Soards increased his tally next, with a tricky conversion missed by Rob Thomas, 26 – 10.
Rob Thomas scored next with a determined finish bringing the score to 31 – 10.
Ben McGuire made a skilful kick from the 22 metre line which he chased down himself, followed by a successful conversion by Tim Gascoigne bringing the score to 38 – 10.
James Jordans efforts on the wing were finally rewarded with a try and a well taken conversion by Tim, 45 – 10.
James Jordans next effort was disallowed with his legs just going into touch before touching the ball down, but a few minutes later he redeemed himself and brought the score to 50 – 10.
Luke Merchie completed Fawley’s tally with a storming try just before the final whistle. A convincing win for Fawley standing them in good stead for next weeks important match with Alresford. Final score 55 - 10.
