Bitterly cold conditions greeted both teams this Saturday at Fawley’s Newlands Road ground, with a Fawley team determined to regain their form.
The match got off to a shaky start for Fawley, with Locksheath taking the initiative early on with a try within the first 2 minutes, 0-5.
Fawley responded swiftly with two try’s in rapid succession, the first a determined charge from Captain Dave Johnston, followed by a great move from the Fawley backs culminating in a try from James Jordan, 10-5.
Fawley’s Scrum Half, Mike Kitcher made an outstanding solo run next with a last second pass to put Rob Thomas over the line, with Rob converting taking Fawleys lead to 17-5.
Locksheath weren’t beaten yet and responded with a well worked try, reducing Fawleys lead to 17-10. But Fawley hit right back with a response from winger Ben Wild, taking the half time score to 22-10.
The start of the second half saw much of the play in Locksheaths half, but initially was unrewarded as a clever break away try resulted from Locksheath, 22-15. Rob Thomas pulled off a skilful long distance penalty next, 25-15.
Two more try’s from Fawley secured the victory with a useful bonus point, with storming efforts from Ryan Dack and Dave Johnston. Final score 35-15, a resounding win for Fawley despite a depleted squad through injury.
