Well done to the first Golden Gods (70+) squad in action at Goals Tolworth today. It was a good start against an experienced Thames All Stars. Six games of 10 minutes resulted in some opposition wins and some draws. The Thames goalkeeper made numerous good saves which prevented the score being much closer than the aggregate 8-3 loss (scorers Mick Povey, Ray Watson and 1 unknown). Special thanks to stand in keeper Brian Jones (Dorking) who also made numerous good saves. We started slowly going 0-3 down but grew into the game with more passion and periods of good football. Sterling performances from Barry Emms, Peter Kerrins, Mick Povey, Malcolm Denham and Mick Charman bode well for the future. Thanks also to Zac Phillips for his organisation, Vernon for refereeing and Bill Billingham for his support and photography.
