A good end to the year

Another season over, it began with alot of hope and optimisim. We had new players on board with alot of promise, Dan Tanner and Michael Osinibi looked a real force in training and there was a good feeling in the camp as we began the season. Sadly things did not go to plan, and the season did not get off to the start we had hoped for. The League campaign was not going too well, but it all changed with a fantastic performance away in the Berks & Bucks cup, defeating Taplow Utd Res, in fact the cup competitions were to be a welcome escape from the league. The Berks and Bucks saw us turn in another fine performance at home to Burnham Utd and advance into the last 32. The league was still going the wrong way and we found ourselves on the end of a 6-0 defeat away at Holmer green. We also seemed to be picking up injuries to key players with Dan Tanner, Micheal Osinibi and Paul Taliotis missing games early in the season. We were able to make good progress in the Wycombe Challenge cup and Subsidiary cup but we went out early in the league cup to Stix F.C, the very team we were to meet later in the season in the Semi-final of the Subsidiary cup. The Season was up and down in the league but season 2006-2007 will be remembered for our cup campaign. We found ourselves in the last 32 of the Berks and Bucks cup and really let ourselves down when we went out away at stoke green 3-2, a game we really should have won. We compensated for that with a fine run in the Subsidiary Cup reaching the final. The Wycombe challenge cup saw us reach the semi finals, with a fine win in the quarter final at home to Prestwood Res but we could not get past holmer green in the semi. The Subsidiary cup final provided us with a stern test against AFC Amersham and on the night we just could not find the net, losing out 1-0. We turned things around second half of the season in the league and put in some fine performances, and the season saw Dan Tanner return 27goals...a great achievement in his first season and we look forward to more of the same next season. We lost Captain Keith Brown for a period during the second half of the season for an ankle operation and gladly he is back with us again, making the Subsidiary cup final and turning in a fine performance. On reflection the season was pretty successful. It did take a little more time than expected to settle, but with injuries to key players and new players bedding in, a 5th place finish in the league, a cup final defeat and a cup semi final has been one of our most successful seasons for a while. Many thanks to all the players, committee members, sponsors and all who make Great Missenden FC the team it is. Here is to season 2007-2008......lets enjoy it.
