
The Heroes Trophy is an annual charity match between the Royal Artillery and the Nottingham Outlaws who currently compete in the Rugby League Conference National which is just three divisions below the Super League. They also complete in the Carnegie Challenge Cup which is Rugby Leagues most historic and prestigious competition.
In 2010 the Gunners were offered the opportunity to participate in a special event to raise funds for the charity Help for Heroes. As serving members of the Armed Forces the RA RLC unequivocally agreed to contribute to something that is close to their hearts.
The event was an outstanding success both on and off the field; this thrilling encounter was a great advert for rugby league which saw the Royal Artillery eventually win a very tight game by 27 points to 22. The fixture now raises money for a different charity each year which is nominated by both clubs in turn.
The 2011 fixture was played at the Outlaws new home ground the Harvey Hadden Stadium the result was 27 - 22 in favour of the Royal Artillery.
The 2012 fixture once again played at the Harvey Hadden Stadium was an even closer contest it was won by an early drop goal attempt in the first half which proved to be the difference as the Royal Artillery won 23 - 22 to win the trophy for a third successive year.
The 2103 fixture was won by the Nottingham Outlaws the victory ensured that 3 defeats in a row had come to an end as they won a tightly contested game 18 -14.
The 2014 fixture saw the Nottingham Outlaws side retain the trophy for a second consecutive year as they won the game by its biggest margin to date 42 - 26.
