‘A bad day at the Office’ was about the best description possible of Kevin Parsons first home game as Haverhill Borough manager, as his team went down 6-2 to a strong Leiston Reserves, having been four down at half time.
The visitors started well, and Borough skipper Lee Hurkett was in early action blocking a shot from the edge of the penalty area as Leiston found plenty of space in and around the Haverhill penalty area.
It was little surprise when Leiston took the lead on 21 minutes, as Louis Bloom’s shot from the edge of the penalty area deflected past Lewis down off Cameron Watson, and two minutes later the lead was doubles when a quick break saw Jac Garrard add a second.
The build up to the second goal also saw Borough skipper Lee Hurkett injured and subsequently taken to hospital with a knee injury, and minutes later Kiwoyma added a third with a header after ‘keeper Lewis Down failed to collect a cross.
Borough debutant Ryan Collis finally gave Borough some hope with a quick break, although his shot flew over the bar, and as the half ended, Reed added a fourth for Leiston via a quick break.
Borough started more brightly in the second half, with Rigers Kabashi shooting wide from the edge of the penalty area, although Leiston added a fifth when Reed broke quickly on the counter attack and beat Down from the edge of the penalty area.
Carrigan added a sixth for Leiston, before Craig Pruden pulled a goal back from the penalty spot, and Ryan Swallow added a further consolation scoring directly from a corner as the game came to an end.
