Refereeing

The coaching teams at King's and from our visitors do a fantastic job in preparing players to compete on the rugby pitch. It’s only fair therefore that when they do compete they are looked after by competent officials that have a good understanding not only of the Laws of the game and their adaptations to a particular age group but who are keenly aware of safety and how young people can be encouraged in playing rugby. Indeed the experience of playing competitive rugby can be greatly enhanced by good refereeing that is sympathetic to the needs of the players.

We have a number of qualified referees at the club and are always looking for more. We are particularly fortunate to have a number of very experienced referees who can mentor new referees and help them improve their performance and enjoyment of the game. The club can provide opportunities to referee at mini / midi level all the way up to U18 level all of which will challenge and test the skills of the referee. Refereeing can be a very rewarding way of being involved with the game. The RFU runs many courses and you may be interested in signing up. If you are interested in refereeing or just want to understand a bit more about the laws and how they are applied.

If you are interested in finding out more about refereeing please talk to Paddy Ralston who is our Club Refereeing Co-ordinator (paddy@kingsrugby.org.uk 07958 232816).
