Liskeard rang the changes in team selection as a number of players unavailable with new player Charlie Harvey being given his first start with Jack Badnall dropping to the bench, Mike McCarthy coming in for James Noel-Johnson, Ollie Dunn coming in for Will Hoskin, Billy Edwards coming in for Alex Kendall, Josh Husband coming in for Sean Simmons, who was on the bench, the game also saw the return of veterans Stuart Patten, on the bench, Adam Dack into the back row and Mike Mander starting at loose-heard prop.
The first points were on the board after five minutes and it came from a Lions line-out deep in home territory where Archie Doidge tidied up the ball to send Jay Mason on a sniping run to cross for the opening try, this was converted by McCarthy. On ten minutes good play sent Edwards away at speed, but he was tackled just short of the Bodmin tryline, the ball was quickly recycled reaching Andy Rowe who ran in for a try that was also converted by McCarthy. In the fourteenth minute, from a lineout in the Lions half, Callum Beaver, playing at inside centre, made an excellent break he passed to Rowe to run in for his second try, this went unconverted and put the score at 19-0. At this time Bodmin lost a player through injury and as they only started with a bare fifteen left them a man short, a gentlemanly decision was taken by the Lions coaching staff to pull off a player to even the sides. The bonus point try came in the nineteenth minute good play sent Edwards in for a try, running in from halfway, this was unconverted. The fifth try came in the twenty second minute following good inter passing between both forwards and backs to send McCarthy in for a try to take the half time score to 29-0.
A good half for Liskeard but they were not getting it all their own way as the home side were working hard to keep in the game.
In the forty-fifth superb play sent Badnall in for an unconverted try, straight from the restart the Lions attacked and sent Edwards in from the halfway line to score his second try, he then converted this himself, with a drop kick, to make the score 41-0. In the fiftieth minute the Lions had a lineout inside the home half, this was quickly taken and good play set up an attacking move that was finished off by lock Billy Warner who also took the conversion, with a drop kick to make the score 48-0. Ten minutes later during a rare incursion, by Bodmin, into the Liskeard twenty-two, during this passage of play one of the Bodmin side was injured and it looked like a bad injury, the referee did the only thing possible, and this was to call the end of the match, to prevent further injuries, having played an hour of the match the score of 47-0 stands.
View from the touchline the Lions played some good open rugby, at pace, throughout the game, Bodmin tried their best with plays of their own and tackling hard but were no match for the young Liskeard team.
Post match the spectators man of the match was given to Mike McCarthy as adjudicated by Liskeard-Looe chairman Mark Goldsworthy.
The next match is this coming Saturday with Perranporth the visitors to Lux Park and this will have a kick off time of 1500, local support would be appreciated, prior to this the Lions under 14s have a match on the main pitch as a curtain raiser, the refreshment facility (tea hut) will be open for both.
