Aggiss scores hat-trick

Last Saturday saw the Lions playing their final game of the season with sixth placed South Molton the visitors to Lux Park, it also saw the return of Jordan Smith and Treve Murley to the match day squad after being unavailable the previous week; the match was preceded by a display of rugby by the mini/juniors section, the players then formed a guard of honour to welcome the players onto the field for the main game.
When the game kicked off it was the visitors who had possession of the ball for the first five minutes, this pressure was cleared with Liskeard taking the ball deep into South Molton territory and great work by the Lions forwards released the ball to the backs where fly-half Nick Parker made a short break before offloading to wing James Rogers to cross in the corner for an unconverted try. On twenty minutes at a line-out inside the visitors twenty-two, the throw was overcooked, but prop Ben Palmer, standing at the back, managed to secure possession and drove over for a try to increase the Liskeard lead; unfortunately the conversion attempt hit an upright and bounced clear. On twenty-five minutes great work by the home eight and excellent passing amongst the backs Liskeard put Oliver Aggiss away and he jinked his way through and over the line for a try; this time Parker was successful with his conversion. On the half hour Liskeard scored the bonus point try this came about following excellent work by number eight Adam Tyndale-Powell, before the ball was sent to the backs with Aggiss darting through to touch down for his second try of the game; Parker converted this to make it 24-0. Just before the break the scoreboard was moving again, following excellent passing amongst the Liskeard backs, then an inside pass from wing Jordan Smith found Sam Chapman for him to dot down for a try and again Parker was successful with the conversion. In stoppage time South Molton pulled a converted try back following good work by their pack for a score-line of 31-7 at the whistle; A good half of rugby with Liskeard at times in complete control.
Ten minutes into the second half South Molton pulled another try back with the conversion dropping short. Liskeard hit back immediately, with good work by their pack, to send Aggiss in for his hat-trick try, selling a dummy pass on his way over; the conversion was sent wide of the posts. In the sixty-fifth minute a well-worked line-out move, straight off the training pitch, led to an unconverted try for Liskeard hooker Jack Badnall. At the restart The Lions ran the ball and with superb inter-passing at speed sent Smith in for a try that was converted by Parker. In the dying stages of the game, from a scrum just outside the visitors twenty-two, the ball was sent to the backs with replacement Treve Murley coming through on a great angle to cross for a try; Parker also converted this to make the final score 55-12. A superb game of running rugby and it was arguably the best team performance of the season; the win also means that Liskeard finish in sixth position in the league
