A hard day at the office

Last Saturday Liskeard-Looe made the journey to Torquay for the 2nd round of Cornwall-Devon league fixtures, and saw the return of fly-half Nick Parker and full back Kieran Underhill. Unfortunately for the second week running The Lions got off to a slow start and found themselves behind after four minutes following a catch and drive line-out with Torquay going in for a converted try; Eight minutes later Torquay increased their lead, using the same move this time however the try went unconverted. On fifteen minute a good break by Liskeard centre Oliver Aggiss took play almost to the home twenty-two where the defence fell foul of the referee’s whistle and conceded a penalty that Parker slotted to finally get on the scoreboard. On twenty-three minutes Torquay put together a good handling move to go in for their third try and this was also converted to make it 3-19. Six minutes later Liskeard narrowed the deficit courtesy of Parker’s boot after a penalty was awarded on the home twenty-two. Almost at the end of the first period The Lions pack put in more hard work with Aggiss crossing for a try that Parker converted to take the score to 13-19 at the whistle.
At the start of the second half Liskeard had a defensive line-out five metres from their line unfortunately the throw was overcooked with Torquay capitalising too score a converted try and get their try bonus point. On sixty-one minutes with the home side, in possession of the ball, close to the Liskeard line it looked as though, at first, that The Lions had been awarded a penalty in fact the referee had awarded a try to Torquay; this went unconverted. At the restart the ball didn’t go ten metres and at the ensuing scrum Torquay attacked from halfway and went over for another try that was also converted to make it 13-38. On seventy minutes following a series of forward drives by the Liskeard pack James Noel Johnson made a break running in for a try from twenty-two metres, outstripping the Torquay defence, to go over for a try that was unconverted as the ball was pushed wide to make it 18-38 at the final whistle; a very hard day at the office. The Lions next fixture is this coming Saturday with the visit of Truro to Lux Park and this game will have a kick off time of 1500.
