Floodlight appeal boosted by over £1,500

Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Marine announces the successful completion of the 15 mile walk by five of its fans prior to the Boxing Day league game against Burscough at Skelmersdale United’s ground.

The walkers arrived at Skelmersdale at 2:00pm after setting off from the Arriva stadium just after at 8:00 in the morning.

Walking with Marine Chairman Paul Leary was Peter and Ann McCormack, Philip Leary and Neil McAdam.

Sponsorship proceeds from the walk, which is expected to top £1,500, will go towards the recently launched appeal by Marine to raise the £40,000 needed to replace their problem floodlights that have failed causing two matches to be abandoned and three electrical faults causing fire damage in the last three seasons.

The walkers were rewarded by a great Marine display winning the derby game 4-0.

Marine Chairman Paul Leary said:

“In mild conditions, for the time of year, this was a long and tiring day but it was really enjoyed by the five of us who were buoyed by the many messages of support before and during our journey. It was a fantastic effort by our fans to raise over £1,500 towards our floodlight appeal and I would like to thank Peter, Ann, Philip and Neil for agreeing to take part.

In particular I would also like to thank the many fans and friends of Marine who have pledged financial support for the walkers who have done so well. It was a memorable day finished off nicely by a superb performance by Marine winning the game 4-0; a result that has pushed us into 5th place in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League.”

Paul Leary added:

“If anyone would like to make a donation directly to the appeal then cheques should be made payable to “Marine FC Ground Appeal” and sent to Joint Hon. Treasurer, Mr RG Kewley, 53 Seafield Avenue, Crosby, Liverpool L23 OTG.”
