Evo-Stik Premier League Marine announces that it has received notification from the Football Association that it has charged their player Jonathan Goulding with contravention of the FA’s rules on betting whilst he was a player with Leigh RMI. The offences took place in April 2008 and relate to amounts staked not exceeding £13 in total on two fixtures involving other Conference North Clubs. Goulding, 22, who joined Marine in January 2010, has admitted the offences to the Football Association and is to appear at an FA hearing in Birmingham next week at which he will be sanctioned.
Marine Chairman Paul Leary said:
“The charges relate to offences whilst Jonathan was a player with Leigh RMI 1 year nine months before he joined Marine. He is co-operating fully with the officers of the Football Association to conclude matters, hopefully this coming week. Our Club does not condone in any way breaches of FA regulations concerning betting and our player code of conduct covers this. I will be glad for Jonathan when the process with the FA is completed and the outcome is determined, as he remains a key player in our plans for the future.”
Paul Leary added:
“Marine Football Club shall not issue any further statements on the matter.”
