Marine suffered another pre-season defeat on Thursday evening as Morecambe visited the MTA with a strong side which came away with a 4-0 victory.
There were early chances for both sides, Brett Mbalanda going closest when nearly capitalising on a heavy touch from Mark Halstead in the visitors’ goal, but the ‘keeper recovered well to prevent the opening goal.
It was Morecambe’s Lewis Alessandra who eventually opened the scoring shortly after the half hour mark, capitalising on a defensive mistake from the hosts.
Steve Irwin nearly equalised on the stroke of half-time, his curling effort narrowly missing the top corner.
The Mariners rang the changes during the second-half, as the management gave another chance to impress to several trialists.
There was a late onslaught from The Shrimps as John O’Sullivan converted a spot kick in the 83rd minute, before Lamin Jagne scored from range with two minutes to go and Kevin Ellison closed the contest with virtually the final kick of the game.
Marine now face Tranmere Rovers at home on Tuesday evening in a 7.45pm kick-off.
