Padiham 1-1 Marine - Match Report

Marine drew 1-1 at Padiham in the FA Cup preliminary round tie on Saturday afternoon, meaning a replay will be needed to separate the sides. This will be on Tuesday 3rd September at 7.45pm, postponing the league match against Widnes.

Craig Lindfield opened the scoring eight minutes into the contest after a pull-back from Rumenio Barai, striking into the corner of Padiham 'keeper Matt Holmes' net.

The Mariners continued to test the home side in the first half, with Niall Cummins going close after a long ball from Scott Lycett, as well as another Lindfield chance from a Joshua Solomon-Davies cross.

Cummins headed at Holmes again from a corner, as Marine searched for the second goal to kill the contest off. Barai struck the underside of the bar in a flurry of chances for the visitors.

Marine continued the pressure into the second half, Barai and Solomon-Davies linking up several times on the right-hand side to cause Padiham problems. Anthony Miley went close from a corner but Padiham continued to hang on in the contest.

Jay Hill equalised for the hosts after 76 minutes, his flicked-on header confusing Morgan Bacon in the Marine goal to evade the stopper.

Steve Irwin came on to replace Ethan Devine with ten minutes to go, but was shortly sent off for dissent following a penalty claim.

The draw means the tie goes to a replay as aforementioned, but Marine now turn their attention to a league game with Prescot Cables at the MTA at 3pm on Monday 26th August.
