Match reports Sunday 7th December

Claire Hanbury7 Dec - 22:37

Lots of great results despite the weather and mud!

Under 7’s
Matlock U7s travelled to Derby this weekend and were met with a warm and friendly welcome from the hosting team. From the first whistle, both sides showed fantastic effort, with some incredibly swift runners on both squads keeping the games fast and exciting throughout.
Derby proved to be a real challenge for Matlock, pushing them harder than they’ve been pushed all season. For the first time, Matlock really had to work for the win, digging deep in defence and showing great teamwork in attack.
It was a brilliant contest and a valuable learning experience, with the whole Matlock squad continuing to improve week by week. A great game of rugby played in excellent spirit by both teams.

Under 10’s
The U10s played Derby at Derby today, in good old fashioned muddy rugby conditions.
A much changed Derby team from last year have really kicked on and pushed Matlock throughout the game with strong running and competitive rucking. Thankfully Matlock were a match to the intensity all game with an even game played out. Nobody was entirely sure of the final score with Derby possibly winning by 1 or Matlock winning by 1 but a draw was probably the fair result for the effort of both teams!

Under 12’s
U12's at Derby today in what was a stop start game on a tight pitch. But Matlock stuck to the task at hand. Finding their way with a mix of direct running and then going wide through the hands. Seeing them to a final score Derby 4 - 10 Matlock

Under 15’s
U15s played a home NLD game against Melbourne. Our boys showed in the first half the vintage rugby they can play, with 4 tries and 3 difficult conversions throughout the half in very difficult weather conditions. The defense also showed up, with a halftime score of 26-0.
In the second half the intensity and concentration dropped, and with a few boys also feeling cold, the game became scrappy and error prone. Eventually an opportunistic try off a scrum allowed points on the board for Matlock. Full time 31-0 to Matlock
