Matlock got off to a flying start, in their second game of the season - with Francis Massey scoring an early try against Dronfield.
It soon became clear that this boosted everyone's confidence, as the boys demonstrated their ability to play as a team, passing, tackling, defending and ultimately scoring tries.
Freddie Statham soon put Matlock 2-0 up, stealing the ball and driving towards the try line. Alfie Wood gained a great third try for Matlock, showing the spectators his 'Rip and Run' manoeuvre!
Cohen Taylor spearheaded a brave midfield battle, resulting in the ball being picked up by to Leon Farrington and being taken over the line for a forth Matlock try.
Adam Heppenstall was unlucky not to score Matlock's fifth try - loosing possession as he drove over the try line. Oliver Hubbard did however score Matlock's fifth try, after an amazing run from midfield, brilliantly supported by James Briggs.
Even with a score 5-0 to Matlock, Dronfield never stopped trying to drive forwards and level the score. They game eventually tipped in their favour - resulting in a great Dronfield try.
Following a break in play, it was clear Adam Heppenstall needed to open his 'Try Scoring Account' - running in his first (of several!) try of the match. This was quickly backed up with Harvey Wilson's dynamic dive over the try line.
Jobe Walbank made perhaps the most impressive run of his playing career, picking the ball up five metres from the try line. With the entire Matlock supporters club - shouting "run run" from the sideline, Jobe did his best to score his first try. His efforts were however thwarted at the last stride, as one of the Dronfield players made a huge tackle and sent Jobe into touch.
Adam Heppenstall then scored three further tries in quick succession - leaving Dronfield a little dazed (and possibly his dad out of pocket!)
Callum Neville and Jasper Williams worked tirelessly both in attack and defence - moving the ball around the pitch, enabling teammates to make the final runs towards the try line.
Despite Francis 'Steamroller' Massey preventing Dronfield scoring a much needed and worked for try, Dronfield eventually gained the advantage and drove over the line for their second try of the match.
Freddie Statham came back with a quick reply - scoring another try for Matlock and Matteo Stewart, not wanting to be missed from the list of today's try scorers, tucked the ball under his arm and stormed over the line to add to Matlock's try total.
Harvey Wilson concluded today's proceedings - scoring one last try for Matlock.
The game ended 13-2 to Matlock after a well fort and well balanced game of rugby.
